IAEWP  ( NGO & Recipient of United Nation's PEACE MESSENGER OF THE WORLD Award )

The International Association of Educators for World Peace (IAEWP) is a not-for-profit, non-political, and a non-governmental organization geared towards the attainment of international understanding and world peace through education. IAEWP operates as an NGO under the mandate of the United Nations. It has more than 100 chapters established throughout the world.

In 1973, the Association became a non-governmental organization of both the
United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It also became a part of the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) for several years.

In 1990, we became officially linked with the
United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Conference on Environmental Development (UNCED) both for many years.

In 1987, the
UN Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar, designated IAEWP as a Peace Messenger of the World on behalf of the UN General Assembly in recognition of significant contributions made to the program and objectives of the 1986 International Year of Peace.

IAEWP's purpose is to contribute to the improvement of man's ability to live at peace, and to educate world citizens for peaceful co-existence and cooperation so that all people may have free access to the achievement of science and civilization.

The basic dimensions of our philosophy are a firm belief in peace and confident steps to achieve a new era of world peace. The aim of our philosophy is to create a sort of action that will move all nations firmly along the pathway of peace.

MISSION

Deeply concerned over the non-violent approach through education in its broadest sense, the International Association of Educators for World Peace (IAEWP) urges the creation of a new breed of scientists, philosophers, parents, students, all educators, and especially leaders who are inspired with the vision of restoring world peace.

IAEWP's mission is to contribute to the improvement of man's ability to live at peace, to educate world citizens for peaceful co-existence and cooperation so that all people may have free access to the achievement of science and civilization.

We plan to set up a countervailing force to war, to marshal those forces for peace that now lie latent in every human heart. With the unique participation of enlightened and determined citizens, we can initiate and further promote those projects and activities needed to light up the pathway to world peace. Our major focus will be to plan ventures in international cooperation that would emphasize technology as it can benefit the entire human race and as the alternative to war.

IAEWP was founded in Huntsville, Alabama, USA in 1969. The first founding session took place in Norway in 1970 by a group of educators who are socially conscious and shared the same vision and concern over the increasingly violent culture worldwide. In this session, the IAEWP Charter was drafted.

IAEWP is now has active national chapters in over 80 countries, having consultative status with the United Nations.
